Compatibility: Tour “Borders”

Through 2019 year actors from theater “Tsvete” and “MimArt” co-created the innovative, and still the only one in our country, bilingual performance “Borders”, which caused great interest among the deaf community in Bulgaria as well, as well as among their hearing relatives. Thanks to the financial support, which project “Compliance” received from National Fund “Culture”, the director Vasil Spasov and the actors Rositsa Karadzhova, Violina Vasileva, Todor Yankulov and Nuri Yasharov restored the spectacle and performed in Kyustendil, Dupnitsa, Sandanski and two in Sofia. We encountered difficulties in the distribution and marketing of such a theatrical product, thus, that it is something new and unknown. In the province there was a strong predominance of the hearing or deaf group. The most attended was the last performance in Sofia60-70 man, at ratio 2:3 of deaf to hearing viewers, which most fully accomplished our purpose – mixing audiences. It was attended by hearing students –
high school students, who were fascinated to see and hear sign and spoken Bulgarian language on stage at the same time, to touch the world of the deaf and experience history together with them. At the discussions, next performances, we were getting extremely positive feedback - many of the hard of hearing shared, that this is one of their rare ones
cultural events in life, and some of the deaf people in the countryside even saw a theater for the first time. It is enriching for the hearing audience to experience the story in sign and spoken language, as well as to communicate informally with deaf people in the audience.
