What?

Developed by the Brazilian director Augusto Boal, forum-theater is a specific set of techniques, created to teach people how to play an active role in their community.

The project aims to study the results of the use of theatrical approaches in adult education in different European communities in Romania, Great Britain, Denmark, Portugal, France, Estonia, Lithuania, Italy and Bulgaria, in cooperation with like-minded people from Macedonia and Serbia, and in particular in the implementation of Forum theatre as a means of promoting civic activism. The experience of adult educators was summarized, using forum-theater when working in different communities and a universal model for its application in different target groups was sought.. The results of the project are summarized in a training guide for trainers “Adventures In Forum Theatre”, translated into the respective language on the websites of the participating organizations.

There are three basic techniques, which could overlap and interact, and the choice of one or the other of the three types depends on the situation, in which the work is performed and the purpose of the theatrical process. These three types are :

Image Theater
Invisible theater
Forum theatre

Fundamental for all three types is the participation of people with and without theatrical experience, no age restrictions, floor, race, social, cultural and religious affiliation. Exceptional democracy, accessibility and the wide range of means of expression made by "Theater of the Oppressed" provokes discussions and is an attempt to resolve personal, social and human problems.

"Image Theater" is a series of exercises and games, which puts participants face to face with truths about between human relationships in the family and society, without the use of the word speech. The image (sculpture) eliminates censorship of the brain , in which words place us. The images are independent of language and cultural barriers and as Boal shows, they often spontaneously reveal unexpectedly universal truths.

The Invisible Theater includes the audience as an actor, without her suspecting, that he is a participant not in a real dramatic scene, and in the theater. It is a means of stimulating discussion, engaging people with problems, in the form of a public forum. The public is free to take any position and offer any way out of the situation, without having the feeling, that she was taught. "Theater of the Oppressed" - never be didactic with its audience, but to emphasize the process of mutual research and learning.

Forum theatre is a theatrical play, in which a problem that excites the audience is shown in an unsolved form. Viewers are invited to suggest and play different solutions. Thus, they gain experience from the shared case.

On 29.11.2007. The Center for Human Resources Development held a Valorization Conference of Sectoral Programs "Leonardo da Vinci" and Grundtvig. The project of the Flower Theater “Forum theater in adult education” was awarded a quality certificate.
