Press reviews:

THE BEST PERFORMANCE IN THEATER PROJECT - BALTIMORE FOR 2003/2004

Romeo and Juliet as a project of non-governmental organizations

Theater project– Baltimore, Bond Street Theater– New York and the Bulgarian Theatre Tsvete offered production, which presents Shakespeare's classics in a "shameless" way, shortening the immortal "Romeo and Juliet" of Bard to about 10 order. She was well received in Macedonian refugee camps, and captivated the imagination of the Baltimore audience.
All skeptics (including us) we learned from this exceptional combination of facial expressions, dolls and choreographic dances, that motion theater is not necessarily a field of work for unemployed dancers. The artists act as a disciplined team, and the brilliance of this production - thanks in part to the unconventional use of lighting and décor - throws the gauntlet to the host city of Baltimore.

There are a lot of theatrical performances now, which are not included within the worn Broadway; a new look is given to the "classical" plays, which we all know and love. But do we have to wait for theater groups like "Flower", to find out what could happen, when motivated professionals get to work?

This is a completely non-verbal and visual version of Shakespeare's tragedy. It combines the interesting puppetry skills of the actors from Theatre Tsvete - Bulgaria and the physical theater of Bond Street Theater - New York. The play looks deeply at the tragedy, caused by the hostility of the neighbors and truly reveals the situation, in which young people are placed in many regions today. These young people are forced to choose between love and violence, which is their obligation under kinship laws. The play was created specifically for a tour of post-war Kosovo, which was followed by visits to Bosnia, Romania, Bulgaria and Albania. "Our show brings a spirit of hope, that true love is eternal - a message needed by the young audience. "

“This performance of Rumeo and Juliet is everything else, but not usually. The mixture of clothes, movement, ultraviolet and countercurrent, and sound reveals the story of conflict and love in the most innovative way.

There are moments of strong drama, comic situations, and from the very beginning - completely unexpected things. My family was so surprised and pleased with the colorful show, as much as I do.

The duration of the show is about one hour and twenty minutes. The speed, with which history unfolds changes, keeping it constantly in tension. Although, that we all know history and can predict events, its presentation is in such an unexpected way, that you are a prisoner of drama and characters.

After the show you can meet the actors in the corridor. This is a wonderful and diverse group of young people., gifted and enthusiastic people. ”

Two exceptional companies combine their talents, to create a nonverbal version of "Romeo and Juliet", which is being played for the first time in refugee camps in Kosovo, Serbia and Bosnia. The performances in Washington will take place in the historic Tacoma Theater from 30. October to 2 November.

Theatre Tsvete, famous puppet theater from Sofia, Bulgaria and Bond Street Theater, known for its dynamic physical style, created a play, based on images, using the power of symbols, to tell the story. Original live music accompanies the play. The story comes to life with dancing, molds, game with swords and striking light effects. Ordinary objects are used in an unusual way, to achieve captivating images and rhythms. And despite, that the play is a tragedy, the performance weaves an abundance of comic moments into the actual text.

The play traveled among war-torn theaters in Kosovo, Serbia and Bosnia. "Romeo and Juliet" presents directly the tragedy of a neighbor standing against the neighbor and really expresses the situation, which includes young people from many regions of the world today, who are faced with the choice between love and violence

The audience commented, that the nonverbal qualities of the play increase its intensity, allowing each person to feel the scenes through the prism of their own experience.

The performance ends with a touch of rebirth. The spirits of Romeo and Juliet in the form of dolls appear, playing a delicate and ethereal ultraviolet dance, they unite into one whole and disappear. This message of hope has resonated with the public in the Balkans and Europe and can now be received by the Washington public.. According to the press of different countries, this production leaves a trace of living images behind.

One hundred percent hit… The show was marked by laughter and applause. ”
